CUSTOM HOME OF THE YEAR

J&J CUSTOM HOMES

Joe Filanowski Jr. and John Costantini used incredible ingenuity and craftsmanship in building this Shingle Style home on man-made Pratt Island, Darien. Designed by Norwalk based Robert Cardello Architects within a tight building envelope, it is tied into galvanized pilings with Long Island Sound running underneath. It features a taper sawn red cedar roof, 120 Marvin windows, Sonowall elastic stucco and two Cultec drainage systems buried in the south yard. The yard was raised two feet and a 2,000 gallon tank is used to pump any flood water to the Sound. A two story curved tower won BEST HOME FEATURE. J&J trimmed it with Azek, and every radius of the tower was different, so they hand bent the Azek on site using a heating tube. The home is equipped with outdoor amenities that include a cedar shower, DCS outdoor kitchen and columned terrace, which looks out to a pool with built-in hot tub & play shelf, and L.I.S. beyond.
